Our History

The Origin of The Official Sterling Raiders Alumni Association (TOSRAA)

On November 5, 2003, at 6:30 p.m., a pivotal meeting took place in the original Ross Shaw Sterling Sr. High School cafeteria. Present were 24 alumni from various graduating classes, all united by a common goal: to establish an organization that would support the students, staff, and fellow alumni of their beloved Alma Mater. That night, The Houston Sterling Alumni Association—now known as The Official Sterling Raiders Alumni Association (TOSRAA)—was born.

Soon after, the first Executive Board was elected:

·        President and Founder: Brent Shepard

·        Vice President: Chris Robert

·        Recording Secretary: Alicia Mosley

·        Correspondence Secretary: JoCarolyn Goode

·        Treasurer: Rashunda Endsley

·        Financial Secretary: Claudia Bair

·        Parliamentarian: Warren Curtis

·        Sergeant at Arms: Marvin Love

·        Chaplain: Nikisha Alderson

·        Historian: Stacie Frazier

After defining our mission, the initial focus turned to growing membership. Each founding member was tasked with bringing others into the fold—because we believed, and still believe, that there is strength in numbers. Social mixers were held to build excitement and support. We gathered contact information, distributed flyers, and reached out to fellow alumni.

Despite our efforts, the early membership drives yielded limited results. Yet, it was the faithful few—those deeply committed to the cause—who laid the foundation for what we are today. They worked tirelessly to breathe life into the organization and keep its vision alive.

Our very first service project was a tree-planting event at Hermann Park. This was soon followed by a food and toy drive, where we delivered donated items to Bethel Baptist Church on Selinsky. Then came a student-centered project: a drawing at the school to sponsor a prom dinner for two. That effort marked a turning point.

From that moment on, our presence at the school grew consistently and meaningfully.

We’ve proudly:

·        Provided parting gifts to graduates each year

·        Coordinated and delivered food baskets and gifts for Thanksgiving and Christmas to Sterling students and their families annually

·        Presented scholar-athlete awards

·        Donated funds to the Band to support their travel for a performance in New York City

·        Supplied school supplies to students and teachers

·        Awarded scholarships to graduating seniors

·        Celebrated and honored the Sterling 2014–15 UIL State Boys Basketball finalists

·        Organized and hosted annual Homecoming Parades and community events

What started as a humble meeting among alumni has become a beacon of support, tradition, and Raider pride. TOSRAA continues to stand strong—committed to uplifting the Sterling community and preserving its legacy for generations to come.
